Pomeranians are cute and fluffy little dogs but, what are they really like?
Pomeranians are smart, confident, playful, and cuddly companions that are natural watchdogs. Your Pomeranian will be sleeping on your lap one moment and creatively figuring out a puzzle the next.
What Is It Like Having A Pomeranian
Having a Pomeranian or Pomeranians in my case is amazing and life-changing.
A Pomeranian is an ultimate companion that loves to be by its owner’s side at all times.
Besides being your best buddy Pomeranians are also very intelligent and independent or stubborn.
What Can I Expect From A Pomeranian
Pomeranians are not just cute little dogs that you can carry around in a dog purse.
When you add a Pomeranian to your family you are getting so much more.
Pomeranians Are Extremely Affectionate
Besides being extremely loyal and attached to their owners Pomeranians are very affectionate.
The affection you get from your Pomeranian will always be on their terms.
Our female Pomeranian Willow is very much like this, If she doesn’t want to be pet or cuddled she will remove herself from the situation.
Our boys on the other hand love attention and affection and often get jealous trying to be the focus of our attention.
Pomeranians Are Very Playful
Pomeranians do like to snuggle up on your lap and relax but, they are also very fun and playful.
They love to play games, run around and chase each other and play with their favorite toys.
Pomeranains love dog treats as well as finding dog treats that are hidden in toys and puzzles.
Pomeranians Are Very Intelligent
Pomeranians are extremely smart dogs and are always thinking.
Sometimes their intelligence can get them into trouble.
If you have a Pomeranian it’s best to find ways that they can practice using their intelligence with challenging games and puzzles.
Our little Willow is a smart little bugger, we have a safety net fence that is used within our yard at night to keep our dogs in a smaller area.
Will has discovered how to slip her head under it and escape.
Pomeranians Are Confident
Pomeranians are so confident you can easily call them “cocky little dogs”.
They have no idea that they are so small and have the ego and confidence of a lion.
You have to be careful of your dog’s confidence, it can get your little dog into trouble with other much larger dogs.
Our dogs think they can take on our neighbor’s German Shepherds, they are always on alert to defend us when their dogs are around.
Pomeranians Are Athletic
Pomeranians may be small but, they are mighty little athletes.
You can easily have Pomeranians excel in agility and games like fetch and frisbee.
Although they are athletic I still wouldn’t recommend bringing a Pomeranian along for a long run.
Pomeranians Are Watchdogs
It may be the combination of loyalty and confidence that makes a Pomeranian an amazing watchdog.
I don’t know how well a Pomeranian would scare an intruder but, you are sure to get an alert from your Pomeranian when anything doesn’t seem right, valid or not.
Are Pomeranians Hard As Puppies
Pomeranians are not any hard to care for and train as puppies as any other dog would be.
They are extremely smart dogs but, also very independent.
A lot of time, patience, and care are needed to train a puppy within its first year of life.
Are Pomeranians Well-Behaved Dogs
Pomeranians are very well-behaved as long as they are trained.
Naturally, Pomeranians have high intelligence but, since they are independent and have natural watchdog tendencies they do need to be trained to respond correctly to situations and listen to simple commands.
Are Pomeranians Easy To Care For
Pomeranians are easy to care for, but they do require a lot of time.
As a breed, Pomeranians are known for suffering from separation anxiety.
If your Pomeranian can be with you the majority of the time caring for a Pomeranian is easy.
If you are not able to be with your Pomeranian for extended hours they may not be the best fit for you.
As far as daily care goes, Pomeranians require less food than much larger dogs making them a more affordable option.
Simple grooming like brushing can often be done at home as well.
Pomeranians are very special little dogs that have captured my heart.
They may be the best companion for some and not for others.
You really need to evaluate your lifestyle to determine if you have the time for a Pomeranian.
These smart, feisty and cuddly little dogs are pure joy.
