Pomeranians Are Expensive
Pomeranians are expensive from the very beginning. The price to buy a puppy is now well into the thousands of dollars range.
Once you’ve brought home your bundle of joy the lifetime expenses start to add up. Food, treats, gear, and vet bills can take a big dent out of your budget.
I personally think they are worth every penny for the love and companionship we receive from them. The financial expense may be a burden and cause stress in your life.
You Don’t Have A Lot Of Time
Pomeranians get very attached to their owners and are prone to separation anxiety.
If you are away from home for many hours due to commuting, work, or school you are setting yourself and your Pomeranian up for failure.
If your Pomeranian is alone for long hours they are likely to develop behavior issues and possibly become destructive.
My dogs follow me everywhere and when I’m not here they follow any other member of my family that is at home. They would be very lonely if they were left alone for hours.
Even if you don’t have a lot of time for a Pomeranian, one may still fit into your life if you have a family member or friend that they can spend time with. Another option would be sending your dog to doggy daycare when you are away for long hours.

You Really Hate The Sound Of A Dog Barking
If a barking dog is like fingernails on a chalkboard than, you may not like Pomeranians.
Pomeranians are very vocal little dogs. They like to make their presence known and are quick to alert you of anything suspicious. The suspicious activity could even be vacuuming. My dog Murphy is not a fan of vacuum cleaners. As soon as I wheel it out he starts barking like a freak.

You Do Don’t Like The Way Dogs Smell
It can’t be avoided even you spend hours cleaning or have a cleaning service, dogs smell.
Yes, the smell can be reduced but, if you are sensitive to pet odors you may not like Pomeranians (not to single out my beloved Pomeranian, all dogs would have this same problem).
You Can’t Stand Baby Talk
I am aware that baby talk is annoying. I even find it annoying but, I still do it. I can’t control myself.
If you don’t like baby talk, you may not like Pomeranians.
Even if it’s not you talking like a baby you will encounter many people that will.
You Have A Busy House With Little Kids
Pomeranians are not best suited in homes with small children.
Kids can often be rough with little Pomeranians, and they can often get caught underfoot. Both of these can result in injuries to your dog.
This is more of a phase of life situation that you can only be the judge of. My kids were 5 and 7 when we got their first Pomeranian. It did require extra observation and care to make sure the puppy was treated as it should be. It has worked out well for us but, may not for others.
If your home is busy and you have small children, you may not like Pomeranians.

You Don’t Like Training Dogs
Having a puppy or a dog comes with the duty of training them and building a bond of trust and respect.
As much as I love dogs it’s honestly a huge task to train a dog.
If you have a puppy you have potty training and simple commands that need to be addressed first. After the basics, you can move on to more advanced training.
Training a dog and working with them takes a lot of time and patience. It may not be for everyone.
Pomeranians are intelligent but, can sometimes be stubborn. They are also know for being difficult to house train.
In my experience training was a breeze (my husband did it). He found working with our dogs one on one in daily sessions that lasted around 15 minutes was best. Our male Pomeranian Murphy took quite a while to really be housebroken. Our female Willow was much easier to house train.
Every dog will be different.
If you don’t like training dogs, you many not like Pomeranians.
You Don’t Like Dealing With Behavior Issues
If you have a dog you are bound to deal with a behavior issue of some sort. It may be possessiveness, separation anxiety, aggression, or stealing your food or shoes.
If dealing with behavior issues makes you want to cringe you many not like Pomeranians (or other dogs, or kids lol).
You May Be Afraid Of Pomeranians
Some people have had negative experiences with dogs and can suffer from PTSD.
Many of us can remember being chased by dogs on our bikes or were bitten by a dog. This can stay with us and make us fearful of dogs.
If you’ve had a negative experience with a dog or Pomeranian, you may not like Pomeranians.
You Don’t Like Doggy Kisses
My little black Pomeranian Willow is a kisser. She goes all out, you need to be careful and dodge her tongue or she will get it right in your mouth.
I love that little bugger but, I don’t enjoy a mouth full of puppy tongue. As disgusting as that is some may not even like the thought of a dog’s tongue on their skin.
If you don’t like doggy kisses you may not like Pomeranians.
Pomeranians Poop And You Have To Clean It Up
You can’t avoid it, Pomeranians poop.
When they poop, guess who has to clean it up? You!
I love my dogs (in a crazy but, still healthy way) so I will pick up their poop. Others may be completely repulsed by the idea of picking up dog poop.
If you hate dog poop, you may not like Pomeranians.
The only positive with Pomeranian poop as that it is a much smaller amount than you get from larger dogs.
Pomeranians Can Do Gross Things
Since we just talked about dog poop, I think it’s fitting to move onto more gross things.
Pomeranians can do gross things.
I only need to mention a couple to make my point and then I’ll move on. I’ve witnessed my dogs eat cat poop and dirty underwear.
Yep, gross. Hopefully that wasn’t right before Willow kisses my mouth.
If you can’t handle gross things, you may not like Pomeranians.
Final Thoughts
I happen to love Pomeranians even after all of the negative nuances that come along with sharing your home with one (or two).
The key is to be honest with yourself before you add a Pomeranian to your life. Is it a good fit?
